** These tools are either currently installed, but cannot be enabled on both D2L and Canvas at the same time, or we plan to install them at a later date. The goal is to have the integrations enabled and tested for use in the Summer 2026 semester.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\nAdding External Tools to Your Course<\/h4>\n\n\n\nAssignments – External Tool<\/h5>\n\n\n\n
Can be used for graded items.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n- Select the Assignments <\/strong>link in the course menu.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Select the +Assignment<\/strong> button to add a new assignment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- In the Submission-Type<\/strong> drop-down field, select External Tool<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Click the Find <\/strong>button.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Choose the external tool link from the list. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
- You may need to sign in to the third-party tool at this point to select your content.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Depending on the tool, you may want to select the Load in a new tab<\/strong> checkbox.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Complete the additional assignment fields, click Save <\/strong>or Save & Publish<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
\n\n\n\nCourse Assignments Menu<\/h5>\n\n\n\n
Can be used for graded items.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n- Select the Assignments <\/strong>link in the course menu.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Select the three-dot icon<\/strong> to the right of the +Assignment<\/em> button.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Select the external learning tool from the list.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- You may need to sign in to the third-party tool at this point to select your content.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
\n\n\n\nCourse Navigation<\/h5>\n\n\n\n
Can be used for non-graded items.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n- Select the Settings <\/strong>link on the course menu.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Choose the Navigation <\/strong>tab.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Scroll to the bottom to view the items that are currently hidden. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Drag and drop<\/strong> the navigation item you would like to add to your menu to the top list. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Click Save<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

- Either add a new module, or you can add the link to an existing module.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Click the + <\/strong>icon at the top right of the module title.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Select External Tool<\/strong> from the drop-down list.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Choose the external tool link from the list.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- You can edit the name of the link the students will see in the Page Name<\/strong> field.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Depending on the tool, you may want to select the Load in a new tab<\/strong> checkbox.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Click Add Item<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Don’t forget to publish <\/strong>the item you added.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
\n\n\n\nRich Content Editor – Add App<\/h5>\n\n\n\n
Can be used for non-graded items.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\nThe Rich Content Editor (RCE) is an online editing tool for creating content. It allows you to create content that is formatted and can contain hyperlinks, images, media, formulas, tables, and more. It can be used in the following tools: announcements, assignments, discussions, quizzes, pages, and syllabus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n- When in a tool that uses the RCE, place your cursor in the editing box.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Select the Apps <\/strong>icon (looks like a plug)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- If you do not see the option in the initial expanded list, select the View All<\/strong> option to see all the available tools.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Select the tool to integrate; the functionality will vary in terms of how you add the content to your course.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
