{"id":26,"date":"2024-04-15T13:55:32","date_gmt":"2024-04-15T13:55:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mtsu.edu\/how-to-apply\/?page_id=26"},"modified":"2026-07-27T11:55:18","modified_gmt":"2026-07-27T11:55:18","slug":"undergraduate","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.mtsu.edu\/how-to-apply\/undergraduate\/","title":{"rendered":"Undergraduate"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whether you&#8217;re making the&nbsp;leap from high school, transferring from another institution, or following the&nbsp;national attention of one of MTSU&#8217;s many signature programs, you could<strong> become one of the newest Blue Raiders<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mtsu-blocks-expandable-block accordion expandable-group expandable-group-lightblock\" id=\"undergrad\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-mtsu-blocks-expandable-item accordion-item expandable-heading expandable-heading-lightblock\"><h2 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"headingfirst-time-freshmen\"><button class=\"accordion-button collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapseundergradfirst-time-freshmen\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapseundergradfirst-time-freshmen\">First-time Freshmen<\/button><\/h2><div id=\"collapseundergradfirst-time-freshmen\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse expandable-content expandable-content-lightblock\" aria-labelledby=\"headingfirst-time-freshmen\" data-bs-parent=\"#undergrad\"><div class=\"accordion-body\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Admission to MTSU for first-time freshmen is straightforward; there are two possible paths&#8211;<strong>guaranteed admission<\/strong> and <strong>admission by review<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For <strong>guaranteed admission<\/strong>, applicants must have completed the recommended college preparatory courses and must present one of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>3.0 GPA&nbsp;<strong>OR<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Minimum composite ACT score of 22 OR minimum SAT total score of 1100 (Evidence-Based Reading\/Writing &amp; Math)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>If you do not meet either of the above requirements you will need:<\/strong> Minimum 2.7 GPA plus ACT score of 19 OR SAT score of 990 (Evidence-Based Reading\/Writing &amp; Math)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>All students are required to submit an ACT\/SAT score to be considered for admissions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>We do not accept test scores through Common App.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The student\u2019s diploma\/ transcript must reflect a distribution of college preparatory courses, similar to the core elements of the 乐播传媒入口 High School Diploma. A sample of suggested courses and units are displayed below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Suggested Academic Units:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><th>Subject<\/th><th>units<\/th><\/tr><tr><td>English<\/td><td>4<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Algebra (Algebra I &amp; Algebra II)<\/td><td>2<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Geometry or higher<\/td><td>1<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Additional unit of math<\/td><td>1<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Natural Science<\/td><td>3<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>United States History<\/td><td>1<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>European; World History; or World Geography<\/td><td>1<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Single Foreign Language<\/td><td>2<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Visual &amp; Performing Arts<\/td><td>1<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>U.S. History Requirement (T.C.A. 49-7-110)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">乐播传媒入口 Code Annotated 49-7-110 requires that no person be granted a baccalaureate degree from a 乐播传媒入口 public institution of higher education without having earned at least 6 semester hours of credit in American history (up to 3 of those hours may be in 乐播传媒入口 history). This requirement is to be enforced for all students, including those seeking their first or any subsequent bachelor&#8217;s degree, regardless of whether their high school degree comes from a U.S. or international institution, and regardless of their citizenship status. This requirement does not apply, however, to students who have earned 1 unit of American history in high school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">High School Credentials<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Graduates of public and nonpublic high schools (including private schools, home schools, and church-related schools) when recognized by the state\u2019s Department of Education must submit an official transcript showing credits earned and date of graduation.&nbsp; Applicants who cannot provide a satisfactory secondary school credential as defined by state law (T.C.A. 49-50-801) may substitute acceptable scores on either the HiSET (10 or higher) or GED (450 or higher) examination.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students under the age of 21 are required to submit a valid ACT or SAT test score.&nbsp; Valid ACT\/SAT scores are those earned within&nbsp;five&nbsp;years prior to the first day of the first term of enrollment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Admission by review&nbsp;<\/strong>&#8211; Students who don&#8217;t meet the requirements for guaranteed admission can still be considered for admission through a review process. Students will be asked to submit a personal statement form. A review committee will assess the personal statement and take into consideration the student&#8217;s potential for success by evaluating factors such as high school course work or HiSET\/GED credentials, honors or advanced placement, dual credit, and extenuating circumstances.&nbsp; Admission by review will also include other special interests, skills, and non-academic factors as explained on the personal statement form.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cover is-light is-style-is-not-full-width\" style=\"min-height:508px;aspect-ratio:unset;\"><span aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-cover__background has-white-background-color has-background-dim-100 has-background-dim\"><\/span><div class=\"wp-block-cover__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-cover-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to apply<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mtsu.edu\/applynow\/\">undergraduate application<\/a> for admission online by the appropriate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mtsu.edu\/how-to-apply\/deadlines\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"28\">deadline<\/a>. Submit the $25 nonrefundable application fee. Submit the official ACT or SAT scores. Students with ACT scores lower than 19 in reading or math or lower than 18 in English are required to register in prescribed courses. Students with SAT scores lower than 510 in mathematics or lower than 510 in reading and\/or lower than 500 in English will have prescribed course requirements. Permissible test scores are less than five years old on the first day of class. A student may choose to verify their placement by utilizing university assessment offered through the Academic Assessment Placement Test . The test must be completed before attending CUSTOMS or before registering for classes and is administered through the University Studies Department. Please call (615) 898-2568 for an appointment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Transfer students who have not earned credits in college-level, algebra-based mathematics, reading intensive coursework, or college-level English have the option to take the Academic Assessment Placement Test, provide ACT\/SAT scores that have been taken within five years, or be placed in the first level of the appropriate required prescribed courses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Academic Assessment Placement Test assists in course placement and will require some students to enroll in prescribed courses as additions to their degree programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The applicant is responsible for signing up for the Academic Assessment Placement Test&nbsp;prior to registration. Details for undergraduates continue below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Graduate<\/strong>&nbsp; students who wish to return to MTSU should contact the College of Graduate Studies at (615) 898-2840 or <a href=\"mailto:askgrad@mtsu.edu\">askgrad@mtsu.edu<\/a> for assistance with re-enrollment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eligibility standards<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Re-admission is not automatic. Whether a person&#8217;s application for re-admission will be approved depends on whether that individual has attended another college or university since last attending MTSU, as well as the cumulative college GPA.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The applications of those who have not<\/strong>&nbsp;attended any other college or university since last attending MTSU will be approved if any one of the following statements is true:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The individual was not on suspension when he\/she left MTSU.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The individual was suspended at the end of the last MTSU term, but the term of that suspension has been served.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The individual was suspended at the end of the last MTSU term, but has successfully appealed the suspension through the Records Office.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The applications of those who have<\/strong> attended another college or university since last attending will be approved if any of the following statements is true:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The cumulative college GPA on all college work attempted is at least a 2.00.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The individual was suspended at the end of the last MTSU term, but since then has completed a minimum of 12 hours at another college\/university with at least a 2.00 GPA on those hours. If the cumulative GPA on all work remains below a 2.00, the individual will be re-admitted on probation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The cumulative college GPA on all college work is less than a 2.00, but the individual has not enrolled in any college\/university for the twelve preceding months. Maximum of 16 hours; other restrictions apply; see <a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.mtsu.edu\/\">catalog<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Audit<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Any person over 18 years of age who wishes to take courses but receive no credit.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Early Admission<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">High ability high school students (3.5 GPA &amp; 27 ACT) and\/ or on Individualized Education Program.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cover is-light is-style-is-not-full-width\"><span aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-cover__background has-white-background-color has-background-dim-100 has-background-dim\"><\/span><div class=\"wp-block-cover__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-cover-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to apply <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To be considered for admissions, students must: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Complete the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mtsu.edu\/applynow\/\">application for admission<\/a> and pay the nonrefundable $25 application fee. Students who have previously applied and paid the application fee do not need to submit a second application&nbsp;by the appropriate&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mtsu.edu\/how-to-apply\/deadlines\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"28\">deadline<\/a>.&nbsp;These students need to contact the Undergraduate Admissions office to update their application. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>High School and College officials<\/strong>&nbsp;can use <a href=\"http:\/\/Slate.org\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"Slate.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Slate.org<\/a> to send transcripts or we accept any electronic transcript services. Main St.<br>Murfreesboro, TN&nbsp; 37132<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The high school transcript requirement will be waived if the student graduated prior to 1989 or has earned a bachelor&#8217;s degree. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Concealment of previous college or university attendance may be cause for rejection, cancellation of admissions, or dismissal of the student. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Send&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mtsu.edu\/how-to-apply\/forms\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"59\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Personal Statement<\/a>&nbsp;if applicable It will take 2-3 weeks from the date the last piece of documentation is received for a decision to be made on the student&#8217;s file.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mtsu-blocks-expandable-item accordion-item expandable-heading expandable-heading-lightblock\"><h2 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"headinghonors-college-admission\"><button class=\"accordion-button collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapseundergradhonors-college-admission\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapseundergradhonors-college-admission\">Honors College Admission<\/button><\/h2><div id=\"collapseundergradhonors-college-admission\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse expandable-content expandable-content-lightblock\" aria-labelledby=\"headinghonors-college-admission\" data-bs-parent=\"#undergrad\"><div class=\"accordion-body\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Applicants who meet the conditions outlined below and are accepted into the University receive Honors Admission status and are eligible to enroll in classes through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mtsu.edu\/honors\/\">University&#8217;s Honors College<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>First Time Freshman<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ACT composite score of 25 or SAT total score of 1200 (evidence-Based Reading\/Writing &amp; Math AND<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A minimum GPA of 3.5.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Transfer<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A minimum college GPA of 3.25 (minimum 12 hours)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students who receive Honors Admission status may choose to register for special Honors courses or Honors sections of general studies classes. They may also choose to participate in the Honors Student Association and related extracurricular activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students who are granted Honors Admission status are also eligible to file for formal status within the Honors College, which will qualify the student for priority registration and other privileges of the Honors College.
