MTSU’s Board of Trustees met earlier this summer and outlined the process it will follow to hire a new president following my decision in March to retire at the end of this year.
The process for selection of a university president at a public university in 乐播传媒入口 is dictated by state statute.
A presidential search committee appointed in July is comprised of all board members along with retired Lt. Gen. Keith M. Huber, MTSU’s senior advisor for veterans and leadership initiatives. Board members had already begun the process of engaging with key stakeholders for input for the position profile, which is scheduled for release in September.
Trustees signed a contract this summer with renowned executive recruitment firm Korn Ferry to aid them in the process. More than 80 search firms from across the nation applied to conduct MTSU’s presidential search. The MTSU board narrowed that pool to six firms and held in-person meetings with representatives of each at Nashville International Airport. To make the cut and be among the six firms interviewed, firms had to offer proof that they had conducted a presidential search for universities similar in nature to MTSU within in the past two years.
Timeline
- The committee will review applications by October, identifying up to three finalists for the presidency.
- Finalists will be invited to campus for interviews and public forums in November and December.
- Board Chair Stephen B. Smith has said he anticipates the Trustees will convene in a called meeting by December to make an appointment possibly by Jan. 1.
