A Journey from Academia to Air Force Officer and Physical Therapist

The Exercise Science faculty at MTSU proudly highlights the achievements of alumnus Martin J. Moran, PT, DPT, whose career spans from our campus to notable roles in the U.S. Air Force and physical therapy. Graduating summa cum laude in 2014 with a B.S. in Exercise Science, Martin showcased his academic prowess through an honors thesis and a publication in the International Journal of Exercise Science. He further presented his research at Nashville's Posters at the Capitol, an event of top undergraduate STEM research to state legislators and the Governor.

After graduation, Martin worked as a personal trainer in Middle 乐播传媒入口 before enlisting in the Air Force as a Ground Radar Technician. He earned an Associate of Science in Applied Systems Technology at Keesler AFB and was deployed to Qatar, balancing military duties with studies for physical therapy school. In 2020, Martin was accepted into the Army-Baylor Doctorate of Physical Therapy program and commissioned as an Air Force officer. He graduated with his doctorate in 2023 and now serves as a staff physical therapist at Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio, living with his wife, Katy, and daughter, Lainey. His journey epitomizes dedication to excellence, service, and healthcare, inspiring MTSU's community.

Kristi Ankrom Completes Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree

Kristi Ankrom, a proud 2021 graduate of MTSU's Exercise Science program, has successfully completed her Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree at South College, graduating in December 2023. Kristi excelled in South College's accelerated DPT program, which condenses three years of graduate studies into just two.

Reflecting on her journey, Kristi shares, "When I received my book list for one of my first quarter classes, I was delighted to see I already had one of the books. It was the same book from my Exercise Physiology class." Her academic transition was notably smooth, thanks to the strong foundation she acquired at MTSU in her Exercise Science classes.

Kristi emphasizes the value of her Exercise Science education at MTSU, noting that it played a pivotal role in her success in PT school. The curriculum at MTSU, which includes essential courses in research, resistance training, exercise techniques, and exercise program planning, aligns seamlessly with the graduate-level requirements of her physical therapy program. Kristi's journey is a testament to how MTSU's Exercise Science program equips graduates with the knowledge and skills they need to excel in their chosen fields.
