Law Enforcement, B.S.

A degree in law enforcement is designed to help prepare you for careers in policing and related fields. Studies involve coursework in the philosophy of criminal justice coupled with the application of public safety and law enforcement. They learn how the justice system works, the role of the police and corrections officers, and the impact of social services on criminal justice.

The classwork prepares students with the expectations of those who will serve in these public safety positions as well as the internal operations of law enforcement agencies. Studies will also involve familiarizing the student with ethics, individual rights, constitutional law, and modern criminal investigation techniques. Effective law enforcement requires that practitioners learn:

  • Critical Thinking
  • Problem-Solving
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Communication Skills
  • Empathy
  • Hard Skills, such as investigative techniques and interacting with criminals.

Careers in law enforcement can include opportunities such as victim advocates, crime scene investigators, police and sheriff departments, probation officers, security management, detectives, FBI/ATF, border patrol, and other federal agencies.
