Dr. Julie Myatt, Director

Julie Myatt earned her M.A. in English from 乐播传媒入口 Technological University and her Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition from the University of Louisville. She has served as Director of Engage since 2019, and endeavors to provide excellent support for faculty teaching in the program. Myatt piloted her first Engage course in Spring 2016, presented at the Engage Summer Institute, and served as faculty representative for the College of Liberal Arts on the Engage Oversight and ePortfolio Scholarship Review Committees. She teaches English and Public Writing and Rhetoric courses. She previously served as Coordinator of GTAs in English and Co-Director of General Education English.

She is a recipient of an MTSU Foundation Award for Outstanding Teaching in General Education and the June Anderson Center National Women鈥檚 History Month Trailblazer Award. An alumna of MTSU鈥檚 Faculty Leadership Development Institute, Myatt served as a Provost Fellow in 2025-2026 and has been named Senior Provost Fellow for 2026-2027.

Lexy Denton, Assistant Director

Lexy Denton has served as the Assistant Director of the Engage program since its inception in 2016. She was selected to be a member of the university’s inaugural Staff Leadership Development Institute in 2025-2026, and is leading the university’s first Staff Learning Community. She is the recipient of the Career Development Center’s 2026 Career Influencer award.

Lexy earned both her master’s and bachelor’s degrees in business administration from MTSU. She also teaches Freshman Seminar (UNIV1010) and was recognized by her students as someone who makes a difference.

Grace Austin, Administrative Assistant

Grace Austin graduated from MTSU with a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Bachelor of Science in Spanish with a minor in global studies. During her undergrad, she interned at MTSU’s Center for Historic Preservation and the Heritage Center of Murfreesboro and Rutherford County. As a CLA Emissary, she engaged with incoming and prospective students at MTSU and CLA events during the summer, fall and spring semesters. She was employed as a student worker in the office of the University Provost and held a position on MTSU’s New to Blue clerical staff in the summer of 2026. She is currently pursuing her Master of Information Sciences with a focus on academic librarianship.


Ellie Davenport, Graduate Assistant

Ellie Davenport is a graduate student of the Master of Arts in International Affairs program at MTSU. They graduated from MTSU with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in global studies with minors in international relations and university honors. As an honors student and a Buchanan Fellow, she successfully defended her thesis exploring the history of and conducting interviews within the Japanese community in the Nashville Metropolitan area. They served for two years as Secretary of MTSU鈥檚 Japan Club hosting cultural events for MTSU students including several Japanese exchange students and English language learners from the local Nashville ELS school. They are a recipient of the College of Liberal Arts Student Award for the Department of Global Studies and Human Geography.
